Temperatures struggled through the 40s today, with the city just clipping 50, which sets the stage for our first widespread freeze of the season tonight. For many locations, we skipped right past the moderately chilly nights to the freeze or hard-freeze kind. The cold will be short-lived but should be enough to end the growing season, outside of some of the mildest spots.
Mainly clear skies persist this evening and through the night. Most of the area sees a freeze, with lows ranging from the mid-20s to lower 30s in a majority of spots. Places right near the bay and in the urban cores may stay just above freezing.There isn’t much change in temperatures compared with today, but winds are much lighter, which makes a difference. Highs end up within a few degrees of 50 in most places. With time, winds turn to come from the south, blowing around 5 to 10 mph.
