La medida afecta sobre todo a los afganos, que son mayoría entre los migrantes presentes en Pakistán. La campaña de expulsiones ha sido ampliamente criticada por las agencias de Naciones Unidas, los grupos de derechos y el gobierno del Talibán que rige Afganistán.
“Mi padre vino a Pakistán hace 40 años”, dijo Mohammad Amin, de 52 años, desde Peshawar, la capital de la provincia noroccidental de Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, fronteriza con Afganistán. “Murió aquí. Mi madre también murió aquí y sus tumbas están en Pakistán”, añadió Amin, originario de la región de Nangarhar, en el este de Afganistán.
