Animated Films Dominated The Netflix Charts Last Week Alvin and the Chipmunks historically splits viewers, as many find the pint-sized singers to be grating and annoying. Still, both The Squeakquel and Chipwrecked were commercial successes. The former grossed $443 million at the global box office, and the latter took in $342 million. Both Alvin and the Chipmunks sequels were made with estimated $75 million budgets, making these profits impressive. headtopics.com
The Squeakquel and Chipwrecked were not the only animated films to make the Netflix charts this week. The Alvin and the Chipmunks sequels were joined by three other animated films: Monster High: The Movie at No. 6 with 3.8 million views, Minions at No. 8 with 3 million views, and Hotel Transylvania 2 at No. 9 with 2.8 million views.
While it is odd for so many animated sequels and spinoffs to make the Netflix Global Top 10, Alvin and the Chipmunks was not alone in this. Several of the countries that were watching the Alvin and the Chipmunks sequels last week were also watching Monster High: The Movie, including Finland, South Africa, and Sweden. headtopics.com
